Peace and Conflict 11G Archive

Welcome to the course information where I keep an informal log of the weekly events in the course as well as track the current assignments.

  • Week 1: After getting the course outline, I explained the details of the course. Then, the students did a introductory biography assignment, an activity on media, an activity on peacemaking, and completed the week with our media day: starting a WWI film called “The Lost Battalion”
  • Week 2: students continued work in our defining peace unit with activities on: “who are the peacemakers” and “world of 100” – as well, the class completed our WWI film “The Lost Battalion” during our Friday media day
  • Week 3: students were given and explained the final unit assessments: a journal (reflection), self assessment, and individual unit assessment – as well, during media day we watched a WWI documentary
  • Week 4: we began our second unit (Causes of Conflict) and did 2 activities: “What is Conflict” and “Analyzing Conflict I” – as well, the students asked for an extra work day to get caught up on assignments. On media day, we watched another WWI documentary
  • Week 5: we continued with our unit activities: “Conflict and Media”, “Analyzing Conflict II”, and “Earthlings a report”. On media day, we started Canadian World War I film Passchendaele.
  • Week 6: we continued with our unit activities: “Conflict and Media”, with the activity “The Just War Theory”, and some work classes on all 6 current unit activities. On media day, we completed the Canadian World War I film Passchendaele.
  • Week 7: we continued with our unit activities, as well as the final unit assessments: a journal (reflection), self assessment, and individual unit assessment. On media day, we started the World War II film “The Boy in the Stripped Pajamas”
  • Week 8: we started our third unit: Security Issues, with activity 1: What is Anger, activity 2: Dealing with Anger, and activity 3: Poverty in Canada. On media day, we completed the World War II film “The Boy in the Stripped Pajamas”
  • Week 9: we worked on two activities through the week on activity 4: Advertising and Self-Image, and activity 5: Terror and Terrorism activities. On media day, we started a World War II documentary
  • Week 10: students had need work catch up time and we worked on activity 6: Negative and positive conflict. On media day, we continued a World War II documentary
  • Week 11: students worked on the unit 3 activities and the unit assessment, unit reflection, and self-assessment. On media day, we started watching WWII movie “Kelly’s Heroes”
  • Week 12: we started our unit 4: Culture of Peace with activity 1: why poverty, and activity 3: Advertising. In order to save time and due to student request for more work time, we decided as a class to cancel activity 2 of this unit. On media day, we continued watching WWII movie “Kelly’s Heroes”
  • Week 13: we continued our unit 4: Culture of Peace, working on current activities and on media day we continued a World War II documentary
  • Week 14: we continued our unit 4: Culture of Peace, with activity: Living in a mediated world, working on current activities and on media day we continued a World War II documentary
  • Week 15: we continued our unit 4: Culture of Peace, with activity 5: Nations of the world, working on current activities and on media day we continued a World War II documentary
  • Week 16: we had a work week on the current unit, and began the unit assessment, reflection and the unit activity. On media day, the students continued our World War II documentary series
  • Week 17: we started our final unit, and worked on catching up on any past work to complete the course
  • Week 18: we continued our final unit, and worked on catching up on any past work to complete the course
